Re: Calculating Center of Pressure of Complex Geometry

We'd like to add this update (thanks to Steve Alter of NASA Langley): In 3D, a center of pressure generally does not exist. In 2D, the center of pressure is the point along a specified line where the aerodynamic moment goes to zero. You may find the center of pressure along a line by solving the sys...

Re: Print setup relative link

Hello François, yes, you would use |MACROFILEPATH| to place the file in whichever folder you run the macro

$!PRINTSETUP PRINTFNAME = '|MACROFILEPATH|\print.ps'

Re: Extract variable information from an arbitrary subzone

Hello Papai, it's a little involved, but you may be able to solve in this way: (1) create a new polygon FE zone with your geometry into Tecplot (2) append that zone to your existing dataset (3) interpolate into that new zone from your existing dataset (4) perform your analysis on the interpolated zo...

Re: Extract variable information from an arbitrary subzone

Hello Papai,

Try to set Tecplot Value Blanking with your X and Y values as constraints [ menu: Plot > Blanking > Value blanking ] -- then you can do your integration with Tecplot CFD Analyze to Exclude blanked regions [ menu: Analyze > Perform integration ]

Re: Select a point value in a tecplot equation

Glad you found your answer codriplot

If you are using Tecplot 360, the CFD Analyze menu has the Calculate Variables feature.

Set your Field Variables first > then you may calculate Pressure Coefficient and/ or Stagnation Pressure Coefficient, or other variables.

Re: Missing Variables in a Contour Group

You mention the Fluent File > Export menu. This is used if you wish to convert to another format, e.g., CGNS

Are you using the Fluent File > Write menu to save your CAS and DAT files instead?

Perhaps a Fluent version 6.3 user on this forum could help answer this.

Re: Missing Variables in a Contour Group

Thank you.

Are you including all of your variables when you save your CAS and DAT files in Fluent? Are you only using CAS and DAT files? Or other Fluent files?

What are your settings when you use the Tecplot Fluent loader? Are you using the defaults, or changing them?

Hello Taiwo_Oni,

What version of Tecplot & what version of Fluent are you using?

Re: Copying a frame

Hi Svetlana In Windows (Tecplot versions 2009-R1 through our latest release 360EX 2014-R1) highlight the frame (you'll see the 8 anchor black dots on the frame border) > copy CTRL-C > paste CTRL-V The new frame will be placed precisely on top of the existing frame so you'll need to move the top fram...

Re: Plotting average of multiple line maps

Jav53, to add to what Steve said ["if each of the points on all curves are at the same X position"] If this is true, then you could create a new average variable with Data > Specify Equations: {avg} = (v2 +v3 + v4) / 3.0 e.g., if you have three variables, where v2, v3 and v4 are all your Y...

Re: Animate XY line with a moving line

Hello Romain, from the Tecplot Tools menu select > Time Series Plot > Probe To Create Time Series Plot.

Select a point to probe > its value over time will be shown in a separate frame as an XY line plot > the vertical Marker Gridline bar (solution time) changes with your animation.

Re: r.m.s value

If you have two components to "cl" (e.g., cl_x, cl_y) then you could create a new variable in Tecplot.

Go to Data > Alter > Specify Equations and enter an equation such as this:

{rms_cl} = sqrt({cl_x}**2+{cl_y}**2)

Re: Calculating Center of Pressure of Complex Geometry

You may hand-calculate [outside of Tecplot] the center of pressure from information provided by the forces & moments integration from Tecplot. The center of pressure is the point about which the moments are zero. In other words, if you set your origin to this point, the calculated moments would ...

Re: error while compiling

Are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit library? Is your project 32-bit or 64-bit? They will need to match.

Also, is your compiler using leading underscores as "decorations"? You will need to remove the underscore decorations.
