Re: OSX Lion 10.7.x?

Hello all, yes, there seems to be an issue after applying the latest Mac updates from Apple. Until we discover what Apple changed that effects Tecplot, there seem to be two workarounds: 1. You may run Tecplot from the command-line with the mesa flag /Applications/Tecplot360/bin/tec360 -mesa [where &...

Re: Vector directions on scaled (X to Y Ratio) grid?

Thanks in great part to Judy's hard work describing this issue in detail, we will be releasing a new version -- Tecplot 360 2012 R2 -- in a few days which includes the fix for this issue: "have vectors show adjusted magnitudes as well as directions, not uniform in length". Thank you Judy. ...

Re: Slices are Clipping the Domain Edges

Hello Ryan, to keep edges, please use the Zone Style toolbar button [on the far left] > click the Effects tab > click the Clip By button and select None. The details from the Tecplot User's Guide are below. ----------- Blanking and Clipping The Use Value Blanking button and the Clip By button on the...

Re: filename error when playing mcr

Hello zonexo, you may have inadvertently changed '\' to '/' in your path name. You need to use '\'. If you want the path of the macro being executed, you may use the macro variable |MACROFILEPATH|. Place your macro in the folder where all your files are, then you can use the call: $!READDATASET '&qu...

Re: filename error when playing mcr

Hi zonexo,

Your use of '.\' may be the problem. What happens if you use: '.' instead?

By the way, our Tecplot macro code has not changed since version 2009, so a macro will work the same in any version since 2009. --Straton

Re: filename error when playing mcr

Thank you tibetriver. zonexo, if you use Linux, the relative file path of '.' will work. But it does not work the same way in Windows. If you are using Windows, you will need to associate Tecplot 360 macro files (extension MCR) with the Tecplot 360 executable. Then the relative file path will work w...

Re: Display material interface lines in 2D or 3D plots

Roberto, we will need more details. Is each material a separate Tecplot zone?

Would you be able to share a picture of exactly how you'd like your interface to look? Thank you.

Re: Tecplot on remote server

chai13, thank you for your post The quick answer is as long as your HPC data are available from the Tecplot menu File> Load Data File(s), or File > Open Layout, then you may use that data in your local Tecplot installation. But the deeper question is regarding the bandwidth and storage type of your ...

Re: Exporting Tecplot data file to Excel

Hello kjkamal, there is a Tecplot add-on which you may enable in the Tecplot file called tecplot.add which will allow you to write your data as formatted text. Please edit your tecplot.add file with any text editor. The file is located in your main Tecplot folder. Enable the add-on by adding this li...

Re: Exporting Tecplot data file to Excel

Hello kjkamal, when you use the Write Data as Formatted Text add-on you will see all of your variables listed in the column called "Choose Variables", which is set to All by default. We have not heard of a case where any variables are missing. If you currently have Tecplot SMS (Software Ma...

Re: Exporting Tecplot data file to Excel

Hello Kamal, if you see the choice "Write Data as Formatted Text" in your Tecplot Tools menu, then the add-on has been loaded successfully. (It does not matter where in the tecplot.add file you add the line.) Is your data cell-centered? If yes, then maybe that's why your variables don't ap...

Re: Averaging in each X;Y by K lines and writing to new vari

Svetlana, as long as you have a zone for each time step, and your grid is the same for all your zones, you could write a Tecplot macro to loop through all your zones to: (a) create a sum for your variable (e.g. V3[index]), then after the loop (b) divide by the total number of zones for the average. ...

Re: Extract points from transient data

shhe, yes, a Tecplot macro or add-on is a way to do this. Perhaps someone on TecplotTalk has already done this and might share. You could write a macro yourself to (1) loop through all your files and (2) create a time series plot using your exact coordinates, to use a new frame each time to separate...
