Wanted - Handy Addons

Have you written an addon that you think is pretty handy? Would someone else find it handy as well? If so, let us know about it.

Here's one... As featured on the Tecplot Talk blog, the "Transient Data Inspector". With the addition of transient data support in Tecplot 360, it can be handy to get an overview of the collection of data loaded into Tecplot. This addon creates a 2D frame that shows what zones are at what ...

Time animation in multiple frames

Now that Tecplot 360 supports transient data, many customers have wondered if there's an easy way to animate time in multiple frames. The answer is yes. I've written a simple addon that links the solution time between frames. Check out the post regarding this addon: http://www.tecplottalk.com/viewto...

I see two issues here: 1) Is your data ordered or finite element? If it's finite element, you want to only use the I value for NodeOfInterest, since J and K have special meaning for FE data (J is NumElements, K is points per element). 2) The $!ActiveFieldZones call is a suspect. Why are you calculat...

Extracting force/moment data for multiple time step

You might try using the Time Series Plot add-on posted on the Add-ons page. http://www.tecplottalk.com/addons/timeseries/ You will have to make sure to perform the integration for all zones prior to using the Time Series add-on. If you are performing the integration on a slice or iso-surface (and us...

Time series addon does not compile on FC6

JP, I tried compiling the add-on on one of our Linux boxes and saw the same problems. It looks like some of the variable names are possibly reserved words (I'm a Windows developer, so I'm not up to speed on all the reserved words on Linux). If you get 'main.cpp' again from http://www.tecplottalk.com...

Time series addon does not compile on FC6

JP, To be specific, the add-on takes advantage of 360 R2 functionality of TecUtilDataSetAddZoneX() in that you can specify a zone number that already exists as a method of replacing an existing zone. I've posted a "fix" that instead of replacing the zone in the time series frame it creates...

JP, Sending the data file would be fine. If it's small enough to email, send it to "tecplottalk [at sign] fowlerfamily [dot] com" Otherwise ftp it following these instructions: A. Using command line ftp: 1. ftp ftp.tecplot.com 2. log in as anonymous, with your e-mail address as password 3....

Surface Streamlines

The best way to add surface streamlines to the surface of a volume zone is by using the Streamtrace mouse tool. Using Tecplot 360 1) Click 'Streamtraces' under Derived Objects on the sidebar 2) Click the '...' button to bring up the Streamtrace Details dialog 3) Select 'Surface Line' from the drop d...

Extracting force/moment data for multiple time step

Quarkz, The menu option is grayed out because your data isn't "time-aware". See chapters 8-2 and 29-1.1 in the Tecplot 360 user's manual for more information on transient data. Also note that the add-on only works with Tecplot 360 R2. It will (unfortunately) cause a crash if used with Tecp...

Surface Streamlines

However, by definition, in my problem with no-slip walls the wall velocity is zero. This is why you cannot create surface streamtraces on the volume. You must have a surface zone that is coincident with the surface of the volume. By coincident I mean that not only must the surface zone occupy the s...

With that much data, TECIO is definitely the way to go. You should be able to set the aux data and parent zone information through TECIO. Once you get your surface zone created with the appropriate settings, make sure you activate the surface zone and deactivate the volume zone (via the Zone Style d...

RE: Link zones of different XY plots

You can query whether a zone is active by using the extendmcr add-on that is included with Tecplot. Make sure the following line is in your tecplot.add file $!LoadAddOn "extendmcr" Notes on how to use the extendmcr add-on are located in "Tec360/adk/Samples/extendmcr/readme.txt". ...

Link zones of different XY plots

I'm assuming that your XY frame and 3D frame have a 1 to 1 ratio of maps and zones, where map 1 uses zone 1 and map 2 uses zone 2 etc. If that's the case, then you could use this macro that I wrote: #!MC 1100 # # This macro activates line maps in one frame based on the active zone # of another. It r...

StrandID: From chapter 8-2 in the Tecplot User's Manual - "A strand is a series of transient zones of that represent the same part of a data set at different times." From the ADK reference manual (TecUtilDataSetAddZoneX) - "If the zone is static (not transient) then set the strand ID...
