How do I delete a loaded DXF from my layout?

Postby marlocastillo » Wed Jul 02, 2014 8:11 am

I have been working on importing a CAD model into my flow visualization using a DXF file. I would like to load a different version of the DXF into my model, but I can not figure out how to delete the existing DXF from Tecplot.

Can someone tell me how to do this?

If I import the new DXF, then both files show up overlapping each other.

Thanks in advance!

You can manage your data using the Data menu. It has a Data Set Info... button. Do you have two Zones there after your second import?
- You can toggle them in the Plot sidebar, Zone style... button, Definitions tab, "Show Zone" button for a selected zone.
- You can delete Zones using Data→Delete→Zone dialog

I only had one zone created. I found that the problem was that the DXF file was not linked to any zone. Thus, it was visible regardless of whether or not I showed/hid any zone. I solved the problem by creating a new zone and attaching the DXF file to it. Now I can show/hide the individual zones with and without the DXF.

Thanks!

I see. If it does not suggest making a new zone, it may be of interest to the people who wrote the DXF importer. (I have only used Fluent and ASCII importers and they create a new zone automatically after prompting to "append" or "replace", where I choose to "append" the new data set.)

The DXF loader is more of a geometry loader, and generally geometry is attached to the frame when loaded. The loader itself has an option to attach it to a zone instead, but you need to have a zone created before loading the DXF file for that to work.

Our manual contains the following blurb about the DXF loader:

"When importing a DXF file, no zones are created. Instead, the geometries representing
each entity type are simply added to the frame. Be aware that a typical DXF file can
contain several thousand geometries, and these are all included when you save a layout
file."
