Area-weighted average

Postby Dave442 » Thu Oct 25, 2012 5:02 am

Hi all,

I have an unstructured surface mesh with a number of variables stored at the vertices. I need to calculate the area-weighted average of these variables over the entire surface. I was wondering if this calculation can be performed using the CFD Analyzer?

If this is possible, how exactly is the calculation performed? and how do I set up the calculation using the CFD Analyzer?

Many Thanks,
Dave

Hi again,

For anyone interested in the future, scalar integrals are already weighted by the appropriate length/area/volume. Weighted integrals take an additional variable into account.

To find the arithmetic average (no weighting) you can use the statistics tool. These details are provided in the following thread:

I missed it when I was searching the forum previously.

Thanks,
Dave
